(Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 20) – The McKendree University women’s hockey team capped off the weekend in Grand Rapids, Mich. with a shutout win against Davenport University.
After splitting the series with No. 4 ranked Grand Valley State, McKendree headed to Grand Rapids to take on No. 14 Davenport University.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first period, but the Bearcats were able to break the scoreless tie on an unassisted effort by freshman forward Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood). McKendree struck again in the second period with a power play goal by freshman forward Nadia Studnicka (Chillicothe, IL/Home School) on a pass from Ivanowski. The Bearcats held the 2-0 lead through the third period to take home the shutout victory.
Studnicka scored her first goal of the season in the contest. Along with her four assists, Studnicka now has five points on the season. Ivanowski added a goal and assist in the game, to give her five goals and eight assists for 13 points on the year. Freshman goaltender Haylee Gannaway (Moreno Valley, CA/Rancho Verde) turned aside all 17 shots taken by Davenport to earn her first shutout of the season.
“Remarkable effort by the girls this weekend, especially today, said head coach Craig Buntenbach. “After beating a top ranked team last night, they only had 13 hours off before playing again this morning. They dug down deep and fought through the fatigue to earn themselves the win.”
